Oedema
It is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the body tissues or in the body cavities (e.g. peritoneal cavity, pleural cavity) causing swelling or distention of the affected parts. Most often it is localized in feet and legs and then it can limit the movements of the extremity. It is may be caused by increased vessels permeability resulting from the injury of vessels’ wall. The other reason may be increased vein blood pressure which most often appears when the flow of the blood from tissues back to the heart is impaired. Edemas may accompany many serious diseases such as congestive heart failure, obesity, kidney disease, cirrhosis of the liver, anemia, and severe malnutrition.
