Abnormal blood pressure reading
It is blood pressure reading which not accurate according to the normal levels adjusted for the age. To obtain reliable reading measuring blood pressure should be performed in a quiet place after few minutes of rest, it should be taken twice and in both arms. The arm we are measuring the blood pressure in should be horizontal and supported at the level of the heart regardless the position of the body. It is important to apply the cuff so that the lower edge of the bladder was 2-3 cm above the brachial artery running through the cubital fossa. The size of the cuff is properly chosen when the bladder’s length is such as to encircle 80% of arm circumference and the bladder optimal width is 14 cm (not less than 12 cm in adults). It is unacceptable to obtain the reading trough the clothes. The normal level of a systolic blood pressure (a blood pressure observed in the vessels while systole) in adults is 100-140 mm Hg (millimeters of mercury – blood pressure unit) and normal level of diastolic blood pressure (a blood pressure observed in the vessels while diastole) in adults is 65-90 mm Hg.
