Gangrene
It is an infection of the necrotic tissues of the living body caused by the anaerobic bacteria (those which do not live or grow in the presence of oxygen). The necessary term for the disease to develop is the presence of the necrotic tissues which can be infected by the bacteria. The appropriate wetness and temperature of the necrotic tissue stimulate bacteria to grow. That is the reason why the gangrene occurs only in those regions of the body which have direct contact witch the outwards (anaerobic bacteria are widely distributed in nature in oxygen-free habitats e.g. soil) . Gangrene’s most frequent localizations are: skin (crushed or lacerated), lungs, decayed teeth or bowel (the place where anaerobic bacteria exist permanently). Depending on localization the symptoms of the gangrene can be different. The site of infection hurts, gives off a foul putrid smell and becomes purulent. The infected tissues are warm, swollen and red. Sometimes it is possible to palpate a gas bubbles underneath the skin. The infection is often accompanied by a fever and general weakness. When no treatment is administrated it may result in the amputation and sepsis.
